Curriculum News from Mrs. Shay, IRT

It is very exciting to see all of the students learning and using the new math materials. Teachers have planned and collaborated well to utilize these materials to make math instruction very educational. Each child has his/her own math manipulative kit at school to use during instructional time.

Please make sure that you check this website frequently. We have posted a video series for parents on helping children with reading. This series was created here in Wake County and has excellent ideas about parents helping children with reading (click logo at right). Also, we posted an information sheet from NC Department of Instruction about the changes in the 4th Grade Writing Assessment. (See link at right.)

Our Professional Learning Teams continue to meet each Wednesday after school and have been busy with curriculum planning, looking at student data, and looking for ways to help all students learn. This time gives the staff not only the opportunity to meet and plan together but also the time for academic specialists to meet with grade levels as well.

Please do not hesitate to contact my office if I can be of assistance
and thank you for sharing your children with us.

Thank you for helping to make
Apex Elementary School so successful.

Wake County usually prints out and distributes curriculum information for Grades K-12 in a document titled Connections, and we distribute that at the beginning of each year. Connections is a grade level specific summary of the different subjects taught. Below is the link to this document in both the English and Spanish version.
