What is Accelerated Reader?
AR is a computerized reading management program that Apex uses as a supplement for the reading curriculum. Some of our teachers make extensive use of the program while others encourage reading in different ways.
Who Can Use Accelerated Reader?
All students in grades 1-5 are eligible and encouraged to use AR. Kindergarteners are added at their teacher's discretion.
How does Accelerated Reader work?
1. Select a book.
In our media center, AR books are easily identified by the orange dot on the spine.
2. Read the book.
3. Take a quiz on the computer at school.
Tests are multiple choice featuring 5, 10, or 20 questions. The computer shows how many questions were answered correctly, shows questions missed along with correct answers and awards points.
What is the AR Reward Day?
Three times a year our PTA holds A.R. Reward Days. Students "spend" the A.R. points they have earned on an array of kid-friendly gizmos, gadgets and necessities. The A.R. Reward Day is an eagerly anticipated treat for all.
