Meet our Counselor
Christina Jenkins has been a school counselor in Wake County for 11 years. Prior to coming to Apex Elementary, Mrs. Jenkins was a counselor at Little River Elementary in Durham County. This is her 21st year as a school counselor.
Mrs. Jenkins received her undergraduate degree from Berry College in Georgia and her Master's degree from Wake Forest University. She is married and has 2 children. Joshua is in 10th grade at Enloe High and Samantha is in the 7th grade at Ligon GT Middle. The family has 2 cats, Nutmeg and Jack. When not at school, Mrs. Jenkins enjoys speed walking, running and baking cheesecakes.
Classroom Guidance is a service offered to enhance the character traits and other topics that are beneficial to the whole child. Classroom Guidance is scheduled for grades 1-3. Mrs. Jenkins provides units for the grade levels and visits the classes weekly over a 4-6 week period. Topics may include but are not limited to: friendship skills, career exploration, feelings, and conflict resolution.
Small Group Counseling is available for students in grades 2-5. These sessions are for students that may need extra support in a specific area. These groups run for 4-8 weeks, depending on the topic. Small Group sessions may be offered in: social skills, grief and loss, separation and divorce, study skills, and anger management . Parents or teachers may refer a student for small group counseling.
Individual Counseling. Mrs. Jenkins meets with students individually when needed. Parents, teachers and administrators can refer students to the counselor. Students may also self-refer by writing Mrs. Jenkins a note or filling out one of the self-referral slips available.
Teacher and Parent Consultation. Mrs. Jenkins is available to meet with teachers and/or parents regarding concerns they have about a child. Mrs. Jenkins often sits in on parent-teacher conferences and meets privately with parents regarding their child. You may contact her by phone at (919) 387-3012 or by e-mail.
Confidentiality. Privacy is an integral part of the counseling relationship. As required by law, full disclosure must be made if a student indicates they wish to do harm to themselves, someone is harming them and/or they wish to harm someone else. In other instances, confidentiality can be broken when given permission by the student.
