Manatee Update :
 Apex Elementary School students raised $149.09 in their efforts to support endangered manatees.
We are now the proud "adoptive" parents of 7 manatees named
Ginger, Elaine, Amanda, Georgia, Brutus, Whiskers and Merlin.

Choosing the right book at the right level ...
1.
Pick a book of interest.
2.
Open the book to the middle to a page with no pictures.
3.
Read the book aloud (preferably to someone else).
4.
Hold up one finger for every word tht you do not know the mean or that you have a great deal of difficulty pronouncing. (Don't worry about names or places.)
RESULTS:
0-1 FINGERS  
The book is TOO EASY! It is a dessert book.
2-3 FINGERS  
The book is JUST RIGHT. Start reading!
4-5 (or more)  
FINGERS  
The book is a CHALLENGE BOOK. You might enjoy reading parts of the book or reading it with an adult.
