Accelerated Reader (A.R.)

A popular program that encourages students to read books and test their comprehension via the computer. There is an A.R. store several times per year that students are rewarded for their reading. Students need to be independent readers to participate in the program.

After-School Clubs

We match teachers and interested parents in organizing a club that is of interest to students. The clubs will meet twice each month after school.
Apex Education/Advisory

A representative from our school attends advisory council meetings and Apex Education Advisory Committee meetings.
Book Drive

A program that encourages families to donate used books, of good quality, to the school. The books are then distributed to classrooms.

This program promotes positive character traits education throughout the school year. Each month a new character trait is introduced. Students are encouraged to talk about good character. Students are recognized when they display a character trait.
Chick-Fil-A

Corporate Fundraising

Coordinates fundraiser with local sponsors such as Chick-Fil-A, Sweet Tomatoes, Harris Teeter, Kroger, Food Lion, Lowes and Learning Express.
Cougar Care

A babysitting co-op used by parents when volunteering at the school. Parents work in the co-op once per month and are encouraged to bring their child, while he/she is volunteering at the school, to the co-op as often as needed.
Cultural Arts

A program that coordinates cultural arts programs or performances that enrich the arts program at our school. Programs are presented to students in grades K-2 and grades 3-5 several times per year. This program is a favorite with both students and staff!

A program that distributes funds to classroom teachers and specialists to help them purchase materials and supplies to enrich the classroom experience.
Directory

Responsible for the publication of the student/parent directory. The directory is distributed to all members of the PTA. (Non-members do not receive a directory.) The directory includes a bonanza of important school and PTA information!
ESL Assistant

In order to better serve the needs our culturally diverse ESL parent population, this committee works to collaborate activities and needs of our growing ESL population. Assists in translation needs whenever necessary.
Fall Fundraiser

A major fundraiser that will consist of students and their families selling Innisbrook Giftwrap to neighbors, family and friends. This fundraiser funds most of our programs that enrich our school throughout the year.
Field Day

This is a spring event that takes place at the end of the school year. Students play water games, battle obstacle courses, ride giant slides and race "hot wheels." Students anticipation of this event is tremendous. Make sure your students brings a towel and change of clothes that day. They will have loads of fun!
Grant Writing

KidsVote

Coordinates the PTA KidsVote program at school and on election day. Encourages students to explore their civic responsibility of voting.
Leadership

The Leadership team is part of the site-based management team that works to improve student achievement through school management that includes administration, staff and parents. This committee is also responsible for putting together the team that will work on the School Improvement Plan.
Legislative Rep.

PTA is the largest advocacy organization for children in the United States. The Legislative representative informs the PTA Board and parents of pending legislation of concern to educators and parents, and encourages them to express their views to elected officials.
Lost & Found

Sorts through lost and found items on a weekly basis and returns labeled items to classrooms. Organizes unclaimed items to be donated twice per year.
Membership

This committee works to recruit families to join the PTA and distributes membership cards to all PTA members. We encourage all families to join PTA.
Mentor/Tutoring

This program coordinates volunteers with students that need extra help in the classroom to reach their grade-level goals. Volunteers work weekly with individual students or groups of students to enrich their classroom learning.
PawPrint
Newsletter

The PTA newsletter is published and distributed twice yearly to students, parents and staff. The newsletter is produced to encourage the flow of information from school to our students and parents.
Parent Hospitality

This committee organizes three events per year. The New Parent Breakfast (August), Donuts with Dads & Dudes (November) and Muffins with Mom (May).

This committee coordinates all activities to publicize Apex Elementary events and accomplishments throughout the school year.

This committee organizes the PTA annual Reflections contest and encourages all students to enter. Must recruit judges and prepares entries for submission to the Wake County PTA Council.
Room Parent Coordinator

Coordinates and communicates with our school's Room Parent Volunteers.
Safety

Promotes a safe school campus. This committee maintains and organizes first aid supplies throughout the campus, coordinates CPR training for the school administration and staff.
Our School Spirit Store sells Apex school spirit items such as t-shirts, shorts, visors and school planners. The student store is open every Friday from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.

Science Spectacular

This program integrates the science curriculum and scientists in the community to help students expand their scientific knowledge. Programs are presented to K-2 grade students and 3-5 grade students once each year.
Talent Show

We have recently brought this back to AES. Each spring, 5th graders are encouraged to share their talents with their fellow classmates, the rest of the school and their parents.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation

This committee helps to encourage an atmosphere of support for the teachers and staff by providing special baked goods, birthday wishes, luncheons, staff meeting snacks and Appreciation Days.

This committee assists with organizing an appearance by a well-known children's author. Students are encouraged to learn about the author and prepare for the much anticipated visit..
